How it all started: As a yo-yo dieter that dealt with a weight issues most of my adult life, I was used to working out, and had personal trainers who promised they would give me results that I wanted & tried everything under the sun. For years, I had gone to several Nutritionists, taken every kind of supplement on the market, went to Holistic doctors, you name it. I tried to understand why once I hit my mid-thirties, it was challenge to lose 5 pounds. All my friends called me ‘The Workout Queen” because of my rigorous workouts, but I still did not look fit. I felt like one of those folks you see in the gym that workout everyday and still look the same. In Jan. of 2006, I made a commitment to myself to finally reach my weight loss goal (which I had lost and gained back at least 5 times). I went to Bally’s and decided to try a “Chisel” class. I was just bored from the mundane treadmill and free weights. The step classes were not challenging for me and I did not even break a sweat. After doing Chisel class just once, I was hooked. I approached the trainer “D” and introduced myself. I liked his training style and the circuit & boot camp type of training that he was doing. I could tell by the look on this face that he probably gets asked fitness and weight loss questions on a daily basis, but what he did not know was that I was a very serious and committed person needing a true fitness challenge, and ready to work hard.
He humbly told me about Yardie Fitness Boot camp and referred me to the website. The following week I showed up at the Fitness Assessment and I could tell that D was shocked to see me. What he did not know was that I was ready as ever for the challenge.
The journey: In March 2006, I started YF Boot Camp with 6 other individuals of various fitness levels. We all had our own personal goals and reasons for being there. We developed a special bond and pushed each other during each workout. From day one, D did not play with us or let us slack off at all. He told us that if it was easy, then everyone would be doing it. I knew that I would probably not be the biggest weight loss loser with a sluggish metabolism, but I wanted some results and a challenging fitness workout. Some days I felt great, other days I was in pain from bad knees that I developed from running. But no matter how I felt, I never once thought about quitting and pushed through the pain. Prior to YF Boot camp, I was a semi-healthy eater, but had way too many “cheat” days. I knew what to do, but I was not used to being accountable. The daily food logs made me be accountable for what I ate, and once I tracked my food and stayed in the calorie range, the results started to come. The workouts were the best and believe me, I had done all types of workouts over the past 10 years, but never to this level. I knew that my success and failure depended on me.
After 6 weeks, I lost 11 pounds, 12.5 inches and had done more push-ups and sit-ups than I ever did in high school. I knew that I needed to keep going and signed up for session II. Session II is more challenging, D has become even more creative in his workouts, and the results are still coming. I have now lost 18 pounds and down nearly 2 dress sizes! Even the weeks that I did not have a weight loss, I knew that I had to continue on and not give up. My overall feeling has been uplifting and I have been both physically and mentally challenged. From the words of D himself: “Results are not given, they are earned”. That sums it up. All those years of working out with other trainers, I thought the results were going to be given to me, but now I realize that I have to be accountable and I have to earn them. |
